Born in East London, Stephen Boniface embarked on private study in conservation and in 1990 enrolled in the first academic course devised for surveyors interested in building conservation. In 1993 he received the Royal Institute Chartered Surveyors Accreditation for Building Conservation, and that year he established his company specialising in the survey of historic buildings.
In 2000 Stephen was appointed Chair of the RICS Building Conservation Forum and in 2006 he was elected Chair of the RICS Building Surveying Faculty. He is also a member of The Institute of Historic Building Conservation and a member of the Academy of Experts. He speaks regularly at conferences in the UK on heritage matters to the media.
Although his work is mainly on individual buildings, his repertoire also includes involvement with town schemes, conservation plans for socially important buildings, and trustee for several landmark historic buildings.
