Prof. Pan Gong-kai was borned in 1947 in Ninghai, Zhejiang Province of China. His current position is President and Supervisor of Doctoral Student of Central Academy of Fine Arts, China.
He studied at Affiliated Senior Secondary School of Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1964 and Advanced Study Course, Chinese Painting Department, Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1978. After graduation, he teach at Chinese Painting Department, Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts from 1979-1984 and became Director of Journal Editorial Board, Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (1984-1992), Director of Research Department, China Academy of Fine Arts (the former Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts) (1994-1996), President of China Academy of Fine Arts (1996-2001)
Besides his administrative positions, Mr. Pan Gongkai has been engaged in the creation of Chinese Painting and the teaching of art history and theory since 1979. He was a visiting researcher of Berkley University, USA between May 1992 and January 1994. He is an Honorary Doctor of Los Angeles College of Art. Mr. Pan has published a large number of research papers in important journals in China. His publications include Limit and Expansion, A Critical Biography of Pan Tianshou, and Analytical Study of Pan Tianshou's Painting Skill. He was chief editor of the Collection of Pan Tianshou's Paintings and Calligraphy, the Genealogy of Modern Design and an editor and writer of A History of Chinese Painting.
The accomplishment of Professor Pan Gongkai in art is also noticeable. He has held large solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and enjoys a high fame both at home and abroad. Professor Pan Gongkai is also a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Council and a councilor of China Artists Association.
