President of China Central Conservatory of Music, China

Professor of musicology and music aesthetics. Graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in 1983 and became a faculty member at the same year, he was the depute director of Music Aesthetics Division in 1986 and the depute director and associate of Musicology Department in 1990. Appointed as the vice-president in charge of teaching and scientific research in 1992, he was promoted to the professor in 1995 and the President and Chairman of the University Council of the Central Conservatory of Music in 1998.The President and supervisor to the PHD candidates of the Central Conservatory of Music in 2001.

The Lectures he conducted in the Central Conservatory of Music include The Fundamental of Music Aesthetics ,Traditional Chinese Music and Musical Thoughts, The Comparative Study of Music and Literature and other courses. Author of numerous articles and reviews ,including The Structure and Function of Muisc, Study on Music Aesthetics in the Theory of Value, The Multi-Level Structures of Music Tradition, Spirit of Humanism in Traditional Chinese Music Culture ,On Music and Literature .7 books have been published which include Fundamental of Music Aesthetics ,New Music Aesthetics.

The winner of Yong Scholar Award on Social Science and Philosophy in Beijing in 1991.First Prize winner of Excellent Teaching Award by Beijing Municipal Government in 1992 and National Award of Excellence in Teaching in 1993,The Outstanding Specialist Award by Ministry of Culture in 1994 and Governmental Subsidy for Contribution by State Council in 1995. Second Prize For Best Teaching Materials in Universities of Fine Arts by Ministry of Culture in 1996.Third prize for Excellent Achievement in Social Science in National Universities and the Title of National Award to Young Specialist for outstanding contribution in 1998. Title of Award for outstanding Literary and Art Workers in both Ability and Integrity by Beijing Municipal Government in 2002.

He has been invited by many international institutions abroad , lectured and participated in the academic activities there. As the president of the Central Conservatory of Music, he has visited to major music universities abroad ,including the Hochschule fur Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Wien,The Universitat Mozarteum in Salzburg, Julliard School in New York, Yale Universities ,Royal Academy of Music in London, Le Conservatoire National Superieur de Susique et de Danse de Paris, Geijutsu Daigaku in Tokyo and other major universities in Asia ,Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions.

The member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and the Committee of Education, Science ,Culture and Health ,Vice-chairman of Chinese Musicians' Association and Director of Music Theory and Composition Division, Chairman of Young Chinese Musicians' Association, Director of National Supervision Committee of Specialized Courses in Universities of Fine Arts in China, Chairman of Xiao Youmei Music Education Promotion, Chairman of Digital Music Education Association of China, Vice-Chairman of Chinese Music Aesthetics Society and Vice-Chairman of Beijing Musicians' Associaton.
