Vice Chairman and President, Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Ltd., Hong Kong
Dr. Chan Man-hung read history at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and received a B.A. in 1973 and an M.A. in 1975 there. He successfully completed studies for his doctorate at the University of Hiroshima in 1980. He took his Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong in 1989. Dr. Chan specializes in the history of modern Chinese culture and thought, he has written three books and a large number of articles on this subject.
At present, Dr. Chan is Vice-Chairman and President of the Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Ltd. Besides, he is also Managing Director of the Commercial Press (Hong Kong) Ltd. As a professional publisher, Dr. Chan has taken on a major role in many professional organizations, which include: Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (Gansu Province), Member of HKSAR Committee of Economic Development and Economic Cooperation with the Mainland Commission on Strategic Development, Honorary Adviser (Education)
Leisure and Culture Services Department, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Chinese and Bilingual Studies of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chairman of Advisory Board for the Department of Chinese of the Lingnan University, Trustees of Trustees Board of Lingnan (University) College, GZ, Member of Antiquities Advisory Board, Chairman of the Hong Kong Publishing Federation, the former Chairman of the Hong Kong Publishing Professional Society and Committee Member of Institute of Print-media Professionals. He was elected as the Fellow of the Hong Kong Publishing Professionals Society in 2002. In 2003, he captured the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Hong Kong Print Awards. He was also appointed by the HKSAR as a Justice of the Peace in July 2004.
Dr. Chan was in overall charge of various publishing projects, such as China's Cultural Atlas, A Pictorial Encyclopaedia of Chinese Medicinal Herbs Series and The Complete Collection of Dunhuang Grottos, etc. In response to the rapid development of information technology in the modern world, the Sino United Electronic Publishing Ltd., a subsidiary of the Commercial Press, has produced under his charge in the early 90's various electronic items, including Forbidden City CD-Rom, Hanyu Dacidian CD-Rom, and Hong Kong Stamps which won several international prizes. Since the middle of 1990s, he has started developing digital and electronic publishing.
