Artistic Director, Media City Seoul 2006, Korea
Wonil Rhee was born in Seoul, Korea in 1960, and now resides in Seoul. Currently he is Artistic Director of the 2006 Media_City Seoul Biennale. In 1995 he was the Chief Curator of the Total Museum of Art and Coordinator of the Korean Pavilion for the 1995 Venice Biennale. In 2000, he served as Director of the exhibition team for the Third Gwangju Biennale. From 1996 to 2002, he worked as Chief Curator at the Sung-Kok Museum of Art. In 2002, he was appointed Artistic Director of the Media_City Seoul Biennale, and in 2003 he became Chief Curator at the Seoul City Museum of Art. His recent curatorial and co-curatorial projects include: City_Net Asia , (Seoul, 2003); Asia-Oceania-Korea Section of the Gwangju Biennale (Gwangju, 2004); Asian Section at the Lodz Biennale (Poland, 2004); Portrait-Landscape (Gwangju, 2005); Digital Sublime (Taipei, 2004); DMC (Seoul, 2004); ElectroScape ( Shanghai, 2005); and Shanghai COOL ( Shanghai, 2005).
