Culture and Development Coordinator, UNDP Bhutan
Joseph Lo is a member of the UN Inter-Agency Working Group on Cultural Statistics and currently the Culture & Development Coordinator of UNDP Bhutan. Formerly the Arts & Coordinator of UNDP Bhutan, he is also a member, advisor and judge for the UNESCO SEAL of Excellence for Handicrafts in Southeast Asia, South Asia and North East Asia. Under the auspices of UNDP, Mr. Lo has worked extensively on crafts support and development from conducting trainings on product development and marketability to developing a handicraft development strategy to organizing exhibitions. Key among his achievements is the successful planning and implementation of an UNDP artisan development project in Tibet between 2000 and 2004 in which he executed the first ever baseline survey on rural artisans in Tibet and helped diversified income generation activities in the rural areas.
Prior to working with the UN, he has worked extensively in private enterprises focusing on community-based artisan development and livelihood programs. Mr. Lo obtained his Diploma in Design from the Epsom School of Art and Design (Surrey, United Kingdom) and completed his Bachelor of Arts at the National University of Singapore. Aside from his passion on crafts, his main interests include sexual minority rights advocacy, civil society drama, and art.
