Director, Ssamzie Space, and Artistic Director; 2006 Gwangju Biennale, Korea
Kim Hong-hee has played an important role in the development of Korean contemporary art through her various roles as art historian, art critic, and curator. A professor in the Art Department of Hong-ik University in Seoul, she has published many books and mounted a number of ground-breaking exhibitions on the subjects of Korean contemporary art, feminist art, new media art, and performance art. She is the Artistic Director of the Gwangju Biennale 2006, and previously served as the Commissioner of the Korean pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2003, Commissioner of Gwangju Biennale 2000, curator of InfoART Pavilion, Gwangju Biennale 1995, and organizer of the Seoul Fluxus Festival in 1993. As Director of SSamzie Space in Seoul, she continues to support and define the emerging and alternative Korean art scene. Kim is the recipient of a number of prestigious cultural awards in recognition of her contribution to Korean contemporary art.
